A push-up counter
you can’t fool
Every push-up counter app has the same weakness: it counts what you tell it. Beastie is a camera counter — prop your phone up, and it watches your elbow angle and your hip line, banking only the reps that reach full depth. No wearable, no tapping, no nose on the screen.
If it’s not sure, it doesn’t count.

What it checks,
every single rep.
Two things decide whether a push-up scores, and they are the two things a human judge would check: did the chest reach depth, and did the hips hold the line.
Elbows past the line
The chest has to come down until the elbow angle closes past depth, then press back to lockout. A bounce that turns around early is watched, called out, and not counted.
Hips on the shoulder–ankle line
Sagging hips fold the body and shorten the rep. When the hip drifts off the line the limbs turn orange mid-rep and Beastie says what broke — instruction, not a lecture.
Readable from six feet
You’re across the room, so everything is sized for it: a huge count, an unmistakable form colour, and a voice that counts out loud with you.
Count alone. Settle it together.
Most days it’s a solo counter: pick push-ups, get an honest max, watch your personal best and your streak move. Streaks pause when you miss a day — they never break. And when you want stakes, send a friend a number: they get a link, do their reps in front of their own camera, and the receipts decide who won.
Wondering where your max sits? Rank it against the published fitness norms first — then let the camera tell you your real number.
The video never leaves your phone.
The pose model runs on the handset. Every frame is analysed and discarded — no video uploaded, no video stored, no photos kept. Beastie keeps your rep counts and form scores; nothing that could identify a room or a face.
Before you prop the phone
Do I need a wearable or a mat to count push-ups?
No. Beastie uses the phone camera you already have. Prop the phone on the floor about an arm’s length away, get your whole body in frame, and it counts hands-free — no tapping your nose on the screen, no watch, no sensor.
How does the app know a rep was real?
A pose model runs on the phone and tracks points on your body every frame. For push-ups it watches the elbow angle for depth and lockout, and the shoulder–hip–ankle line for sag. A rep that reaches depth with hips in line is banked; one that doesn’t is refused, and the limb that broke turns orange so you know why.
Does it work offline?
Yes. Counting runs entirely on the device, so a set counts with the phone in airplane mode. Only the score travels, and only when you finish a duel.
Is it free?
The solo counter is free for all three exercises, with daily session caps, and you can accept one full duel free. Beastie Pro is an optional subscription for unlimited duels and sessions.
Beastie is a general fitness product, not medical advice. Form feedback is about scoring reps fairly, not a health assessment.
Find out what your set is really worth.
You already know roughly how many you can do. The interesting question is how many of those survive a camera that refuses the shallow ones — and whether your mate’s number would survive it either.
- Free — no card, no trial to cancel
- No account needed to try it
- Video never leaves your phone
- Counts with no signal
One set takes about a minute. If the number disappoints you, nobody else ever sees it.
