Push-Up Duel Apps Compared: Compete With Friends
Seven push-up competition apps compared from their own listings: how each counts reps, how you compete, platforms and price. By the makers of Beastie.
The best push-up duel app depends on how you want to compete. For a live head-to-head where the camera counts both of you, look at Beastie, PushRank or Push Up Boss. For a group that logs a daily total and watches a leaderboard, PushCheck or Pushup Social fit better. Beastie is the one built around challenging one specific friend.
A push-up competition is only as good as the count, so this comparison starts there: how does each app decide what a rep is?
We make Beastie, so read our entry with that in mind. Everything below about the other apps comes from their own App Store listings, Google Play listings and websites, read on 18 October 2026. Where a listing doesn't mention something, we say "not stated in listing" rather than guess. Prices are US App Store prices and can change.

Live duels: both cameras counting
Beastie
Beastie is a rep duel app for iPhone and Android. You prop your phone with your whole body in frame, and the camera counts only clean reps. A skeleton is drawn over your body, and a rep that falls short is refused with the reason ("chest lower!"). Processing happens on the phone; video is never uploaded or stored. How the counting works explains the thresholds.
Two ways to compete. A live duel is 60 seconds, both of you at once, each in front of your own phone, with both counts on screen. Or do a set and send it as a challenge link: your friend opens it, sees your number and answers on camera. A sent challenge stays open seven days. For uneven rivalries you can pick "beat your best", where each of you races your own record, or a handicap that cuts the sender's count by 5% to 50% at the verdict. The verdict gives a receipt (reps, form score, best clean streak) and a shareable card; a rematch is one tap, roles reversed.
- Good for: settling it with one person, live or over a week, with the same strict count on both phones.
- Honest limits: it counts push-ups, squats and jumping jacks only. You need a spot where your whole body fits in frame. It doesn't run leagues or brackets, so keep an overall score yourselves. Sending duels needs Beastie Pro, which starts with a 7-day free trial; answering a friend's challenge is always free.
PushRank
PushRank's listing opens with "Drop into a live push-up duel: your camera counts your reps, theirs counts theirs." You can challenge a friend or "get matched with a real opponent at your level", and the listing says there are "No bots, no scripted opponents." There's also a weekly six-tier league and an app lock that holds chosen apps until your daily push-up goal is done. It says reps are checked "once by the camera, once by the server", that every set gets a 0–100 form score, and that video "is never recorded and never leaves your device." The listing says "PushRank Pro subscription required; the league, duels and app lock are part of Pro." In-app purchases are listed from $7.99 to $29.99. It has 4 ratings on the US App Store as of October 2026.
Push Up Boss
Push Up Boss gives you three ways to count: "AI push-up counting" with the camera, a manual tap counter, and phone-on-back motion tracking. Its site adds that you can "Challenge friends or get matched with players around the world in a live push up battle", "send a battle code to a friend on iPhone or Android", and play ranked battles. Its Google Play listing says you can play "with friends and other players across iOS and Android" with crossplay. It adds tournaments and boss battles, with XP and levels. It lists optional workout video recording and an avatar mode that hides your camera view. It's free to play with no account needed; a one-time "Premium Lifetime" purchase, listed at $4.99, removes ads. It has 58 ratings on the US App Store as of October 2026.
Push Up Arena
Push Up Arena lists "Live 1v1 PvP Battles" to "Challenge real players in real time", plus boss battles, dungeons, ranks up to Champion, and XP and levels. It names push-ups, squats, sit-ups and planks. How it counts reps is not stated in its current listing. The listing says the features described "require a subscription", with "Unlimited Access" purchases from $9.99 to $39.99. It's an iPhone app, with 3,557 ratings on the US App Store as of October 2026.
Group boards: a daily total you all see
Pushup Social
Pushup Social pairs an "AI pushup counter" ("on-device pose detection: nothing leaves your phone") with a screen-time gate: "1 pushup = 1 minute of scrolling time". The competing happens on boards: daily, weekly, monthly and all-time rankings, a friends-only board with Pro, and teams with a live team leaderboard where "Team-vs-team rankings reset every Monday". Its site adds a weekly Bronze-to-Gold league and a Quick Add option for logging a set by hand. It's free to start, and Pushup Pro is a subscription with weekly, monthly and yearly options. Its site links only to the App Store. It has 13 ratings on the US App Store as of October 2026.
PushCheck
PushCheck is the simplest idea here: "Create a group, set a daily push-up goal, and share the invite code." You log your push-ups yourself ("Manual check-ins keep it simple", per its site), and can attach a proof photo. Everyone sees the day's board, and an optional nightly "Shame Timer" calls out whoever hasn't hit their goal. The listing says "Everything above the line is free. No ads, no subscriptions." PushCheck Pro is a one-time unlock for public groups. Its site says "For iPhone." It has 16 ratings on the US App Store as of October 2026.
Push For Better
Push For Better is the event app for The Push-Up Challenge, which its organisers call "Australia's largest physical and mental fitness event". In the app you "bank your push-ups" each day of the event, see daily mental health facts, and work toward team goals with your teammates. It's on the App Store and Google Play, free to download with no in-app purchases listed.
Which one fits your rivalry
- You want to beat one specific friend, live or over a week: Beastie.
- You want live duels against strangers and a ranked league: PushRank or Push Up Boss.
- You want it free with no subscription: Push Up Boss (with ads) or PushCheck.
- Your group wants a shared daily total, not head-to-head sets: PushCheck or Pushup Social.
Before your first duel
Make sure you're both counted the same way: a camera on one side and a tap counter on the other isn't a fair fight. Then test a half rep on purpose. If the app counts it, the score won't settle anything (why rep counters disagree). Our push-up competition rules give a rep definition you can copy.
App names are trademarks of their owners, used here only to identify the apps being compared. Beastie isn't affiliated with any of them.

One set. Then decide.
Every app on a list like this says it counts honestly. Prop your phone up, do one set, and watch which reps Beastie refuses and why. That is the comparison that matters.
- First set free, no card
- No account needed to try it
- Video never leaves your phone
- Counts with no signal
One set takes about a minute. If the number disappoints you, nobody else ever sees it.
Questions people ask

For a group that logs a daily total, PushCheck or Pushup Social fit better. Beastie is the one built around challenging a specific friend by link or live duel.
Is there an app to compete push-ups with friends for free?

Which push-up competition apps count reps with the camera?
Beastie, PushRank, Push Up Boss and Pushup Social all describe camera counting in their listings. Push Up Boss also offers manual tapping and a phone-on-back mode. PushCheck and Push For Better are logging apps where you enter your own numbers.
